![]() ![]() Replacement began in 1892 & despite its obsolescence, the Model 1873 was still used by secondary units during the Spanish–American War in Cuba & the Philippines. military until it was gradually replaced by the Springfield Model 1892 bolt action rifle, essentially a copy of the Norwegian Krag-Jørgensen action. ![]() The black powder Model 1873 continued to be the main service rifle of the U.S. Since posting this ad, it has been pointed out to us by a knowledgeable collector (thanks Colin) that this rifle boasts the round inspectors mark which is quite rare, as only rifles dated 1877-1879 were marked as such, making this a very desirable addition to your collection. This rifle is dated 1878 as year of manufacture, just 2 years after Custer had more Indians come to his party than expected. Coming in our next shipment from the US & available for pre-order is this extremely nice example of the iconic Springfield 'Trapdoor' 1873 rifle updated with the Buffington rear sight which unusually, comes complete with the original cleaning rod (many were discarded throughout the years).
